Design in Progress: Working Through Triggers and Layers in Storyline

I recently recorded a quick, unpolished 15-minute walk-through of my workflow in Articulate Storyline. It’s not a polished tutorial, but it’s a glimpse into my design process as I troubleshoot and experiment in real time.
In this clip, I explore different ways to handle slide interactivity, and specifically why I chose shapes instead of hotspots for my triggers. You'll see in the video why the shapes really work better in this case. I'm curious to know, when you’re designing interactivity, what factors drive your choice between hotspots and shapes?
Next steps after refining this slide will include adding alt text to interactive elements and carefully reviewing the focus order to ensure a smooth, accessible learner experience.
I’ve always enjoyed watching others “work out loud” - it reveals the thinking behind design decisions, not just the finished product.
So, this is my small contribution to that spirit of openness. Sharing work mid-process feels a little vulnerable (it’s never easy to put unpolished drafts out there) but that’s where the most authentic learning happens, both for me and, hopefully, for anyone else building in Storyline.
Stay tuned for some more updates on this project, and the finished product by the end of November!
